Naad Yoga - The practice
Naad Yoga is an age-old kirtan practice from ancient India.
**According to Vedanta, the entire world originated from one sound - Om. The goal of this practice is to experience ultimate oneness. Buddha said that the entire world is a vibration.
This is why “One Om” is the foundational chant to this practice. Humming the sound serves as a means to arrive at a state of Anahad Naad (sound made without any two objects) and unity. Rubaba has uniquely combined the classical musical notation system to represent seven chakras (also seven states of mind). He utilizes the core principles of Naad Yoga (Sound Yoga) to create healing experiences for the listener.
*** We believe that there is a divine order that prevails all life. We call aligning oneself with it “Being in Natural Discipline ''. Naad Yoga allows you to see beyond one’s ego and thus experience greater unity within this flow.
**** Listening - One of the most powerful means to experiencing oneness is enhanced listening. The mind is like a slippery fish. It always seeks pleasure from one object to the next. From one dopamine hit to the next. Through the practice of Naad Yoga, we quiet the mind and arrive into enhanced listening.
*** Kirtan as Seva - We focus on developing gratitude for and being in service to our fellow travelers who unite in this experience of oneness through sound healing. Through chanting together we enhance each other’s experience and in turn amplify interconnectedness when sung in unison.
Ultimate goal is to find the teacher (the guru) inside.
5 drivers - Instead of fighting the five vices, we leverage them as energies and master channeling them through sound.
Emotion (shruti)
**** In the Eastern psychology of Naad, there are 22 primary emotions (shrutis), the core alphabet of the universal language of sound. Emotions are faster than the speed of light; they happen before we become aware of them by forming a thought, sound, sensation, word, gesture or facial expression.
Feeling (naad/sur)
**** As soon as we turn our emotions into audible sound (naad), or any other form of expression, we speak of feelings. Composing our sound, we will find a certain pitch (sur) for this expression. In the practice of Naad Yoga, a shruti expressed on its corresponding sur is defined as a feeling.
Mood (raag)
**** When we put different feelings together to form a sentence, a narrative, an experience, they are composed into moods (raags). Just as the letters of an alphabet enable us to build infinite meanings in a language, there are infinite possible raags that can be created. There are a total of 60 raags – 60 sublimely composed moods through which we can reflect our life experience. Those moods cover everything we may possibly go through and embrace those feelings with an uplifting prospect.
