Ecstatic Kirtan with Rubaba

Join us for an exhilarating evening as Rubaba introduces Ecstatic Kirtan, a fusion of electronic music and traditional kirtan. Drawing inspiration from Middle Eastern maqam, Indian classical raga, Native American chants, Gregorian chants, and more, Rubaba creates an uplifting dance experience with electronic grooves.

This unique blend of world music and electronic beats offers an ecstatic dance experience like no other. Rubaba's original chants, such as “I am love,” are crafted from simple human emotions, making the music deeply relatable and transformative.

——-Ecstatic Kirtan - 45 mins - This phase will involve Slow to mid-tempo Kirtan-based chanting. Participants will engage in call-and-response-based kirtan singing. The music will be based on Indian Classical fusion with modern electronica. The idea is to connect and integrate heart and throat chakra to invoke the Rajo and Sato Guna. The overall objective will be to drop into a deeper meditative state. During this part, Rubaba will explain the meaning of every chant and help participants pronounce each chant. Raags employed during this time will be Desh, Hansadhwani, Yaman, Bhairo, Kafi, and Bhoopali. 

——Ecstatic Dance - 60 mins - This will be a movement-based activity. The music will be a fusion of multiple genres from all over the world (Indian classical, African, Moroccan, Makam music, Flamenco, Celtic, Punjabi, and upbeat electronica). The entire focus will be to activate heart and throat chakras and create a highly expressive safe space for all participants. Participants are encouraged and welcome to move in the most comfortable manner taking care of their hearts and honoring their minds and bodies.

———Rubaba is a multi-instrumentalist, classically trained musician, and vocalist. As a Naad Yoga practitioner, he has been fusing his love for music and his devotion to finding deeper spiritual meaning in life for over 30 years. He is well trained by renowned South Asian and Western schools of music and has effectively combined both to share the philosophy of oneness in humanity through music. Rubaba has studied the world’s sacred texts and offers a unique style by combining music from different parts of the world in his devotional singing. His style inspires call and response, deep meditation, and dancing with joy. He creates vast and intricate soundscapes using multiple instruments including guitars, keyboards, ethnic flutes, and percussion, and fuses them with electronic music. Listeners often leave with a deep sense of peace, calm, joy, and exhale after attending Rubaba’s Kirtan Workshops.
